The Animated Series
Series SummaryFour years after the cancellation of the original Star Trek series, Gene Roddenberry was able to resurrect the starship Enterprise and its crew as an animated series of 1/2-hour episodes. Although Roddenberry and Paramount Pictures never considered the animated episodes to be part of the Star Trek "canon," many fans consider the two seasons of animated episodes to represent the last two years of the Enterprise's original five-year mission. The series premise was exactly the same as the original series, and many of the animated episodes were written by recognized science fiction and former-Star Trek writers. Therefore, although intended primarily as a children's program, the series produced many good Star Trek stories.
