Mission Highlights: The Apollo lifed off 7 1/2 hours after Soyuz 19. Soyuz and Apollo remained docked for 2 days. Apollo stayed in orbit several days after Soyuz returned to Earth. Various experiments were conducted during the extra days in space. During reentry, the crew inhaled poisonous rocket fuel fumes that leaked into the cabin, but they were later released from the hospital in good health. The carrier USS New Orleans recovered the crew, in what was to be the last water landing for American manned spacecraft.
