1997: Magic Kingdom - Part 2
FrontierlandContinuing on the walkway out of Adventureland, your travels through the Magic Kingdom next take you to Frontierland, a reasonable recreation of an "old west" town (minus the dirt streets, horses, and outlaws). Off to the left are two "mountains," which house two of the most popular rides in all of the Magic Kingdom. In Splash Mountain, you take another water ride, this time in a hollow log, through scenes from Disney's A Song of the South, in which Brer Fox and Brer Bear try to capture Brer Rabbit. The ride ends with a 50-foot drop that almost guarantees you'll get wet. If you don't want to get soaked, either sit in the back of the log or wear a raincoat!
![]() Prepare to get wet at Splash Mountain The second thrill ride in Frontierland is Big Thunder Mountain, a fairly tame rollercoaster ride around and into an abandoned gold mine. I have to admit that since I haven't yet worked up the nerve to ride Space Mountain (discussed later), this is about as wild a ride as I've gone in for to date.
![]() Ride the runaway train of Big Thunder Mountain For a more leisurely ride around Frontierland, you might want to try the Liberty Square Riverboat or Mike Fink's Keelboats. You'll sail past replicas of Native American villages and Tom Sawyer's Island, which you can visit to explore old Fort Sam Clemens.
![]() Try a leisurely sail on Disney's Rivers of America Back on dry land, don't forget to take time for the Country Bear Jamboree, a lively stage show put on by a group of "audio-animatronic" bears. The show varies depending on the time of year, but always includes lots of laughes and a great Elvis im-bear-sonator. Also located in Frontierland is the Diamond Horseshoe Revue, a lively 1-hour western dance hall show.

Liberty SquareIf you're not attentive, you just might miss the transition from Frontierland to Liberty Square, which is set in colonial American styled buildings. In addition to the Haunted House, the big attraction here is the Hall of Presidents. Here you'll be treated to an amazing line up of all the U.S. presidents, from George Washington to Bill Clinton. Look for the lifelike turns and nods of the head, hand movements, and side-bar conversations that go on among the "audio-animatronic" presidents as Abraham Lincoln and Bill Clinton make short speeches on America's heritage. Liberty Square is also home to the Liberty Tree Tavern, a family-style restaurant serving traditional American fare.
