A Drive Around Guam, USA

Stop 6 - Inarajan Bay

Bear Rock
Bear Rock

As we round the southern tip of Guam and begin to head north along the island's eastern (windward) coast, we almost immediately notice that the coastline has taken on a more rugged look. Instead of white sand beaches with calm, lapping waves, we see rocky coastlines with waves crashing against the rocks with great force. Sometimes this wave action results in some unusual rock formations, such as Bear Rock, which looks like a bear sitting and looking out towards the horizon.

A little further along, we find the seascape view shown above.

Chief Gadao
Statue of Chief Gadao

Passing through Inarajan village, we find a statue of Chief Gadao who, legend has it, so frightened a rival village chief with his feats of strength that when the rival found himself in the same canoe with Chief Gadao, he paddled so hard in the opposite direction that the canoe broke in two. Here we see Chief Gadao in his half of the canoe.
