A Drive Around Guam, USA
Stop 8 - Pago & Ipan Bays
A short distance north of Talofofo Bay lies Ipan Bay. As with most of Guam's bays, the off-shore coral reef acts as a water break that results in very shallow waters at low tide.
Pago Bay is the largest bay on the central eastern, or windward, side of Guam. A Spanish settlement near the mouth of the Pago River was wiped out by a smallpox epidemic in 1856. The cluster of white buildings on the opposite hillside near the center of the photo above is the campus of the University of Guam.
