A Drive Around Guam, USA
Stop 11 - Tumon Tourist District
Tumon Bay is a 2-mile stretch of white sand beach where the majority of Guam's resort hotels are located. The bay is enclosed by a barrier reef, which means that the water is very calm and ideal for swimming and relaxing. (Unfortunately, the photo above was taken on a somewhat overcast day, and doesn't do justice to the beauty of Tumon Bay.)
Beyond the far northern point of Tumon Bay is Two Lovers Point, a key landmark on Guam. An old Chamorro legend is that when a young couple were prohibited by their parents from getting married, they tied their long hair together and jumped off the cliff so that they could be together forever in the afterlife. Today, Two Lovers Point is a scenic overlook that gives a spectacular birdseye view of the Tumon Bay area. The hotels that line Tumon Bay are 5-star resorts that include such American names as Hilton, Hyatt, and Westin, plus many extraordinary Japanese-owned hotels.
A favorite attraction in the late afternoon is a sunset dinner cruise around Tumon Bay. The powered catamaran in the photo above includes a fine Chamorro banquet plus lively local music.
After the sun goes down, there's still a lot to do on Guam, as we'll see in the 12th and final stop of this virtual tour of Guam.
