A Drive Around Oahu, Hawaii
Stop 4 - Pali Overlook & Byodo-in
Our tour bus takes use past the towns of Kailua and Kaneohe and then turns inland to climb the rugged Koolau Mountain range. Eventually we arrive at the summit of Pali Overlook, where we get a breathtaking view of the Kailua and Kaneohe areas that we had just driven through. Legend has it that when Kamehameha's forces defeated Oahu's chief, the chief and his defeated followers were thrown off the cliff at Pali.
We head back down the mountain road and we next stop at the foot of the Koolau Mountains at Valley of the Temples, an inter-denominational memorial park and cemetary. In this peaceful setting, we find Byodo-in, a replica of a famous Buddhist temple in Japan.
