A Drive Around Oahu, Hawaii

Stop 5 - The Windward Coast

Chinaman's Hat
Chinaman's Hat Island

On the 20 to 25 mile drive from the Valley of the Temples to our next major stop, the Polynesian Cultural Center, we drive along Oahu's northeastern or windward coast. Along the way we pass one sandy beach after another, and among the interesting sights is Chinaman's Hat, a small island that lies a short distance off shore.

The Crouching Lion
The Crouching Lion rock formation

A few miles past the Chinaman's Hat, we arrive at the Crouching Lion Inn for a lunch stop. The restaurant's name comes from a very unusual rock formation on the mountain just behind the establishment. For all the world, this rock formation looks like a crouching lion with his back turned towards us. By the way, the "Chicken Macadamia" served at the Crouching Lion Inn is absolutely fabulous!

Stomach's filled and thirsts quenched, we're again on our way towards one of the most interesting and entertaining stops on our tour, the Polynesian Cultural Center.
