A Drive Around St. John
Stop 5 - North Coast BeachesThe northern coast of St. John boasts a stretch of five of the most beautiful beaches in the Virgin Islands, if not the world! Maho Bay (sorry, no photo) is home to privately-operated campgrounds that have won awards for their environmentally friendly atmosphere. Next up is Cinnamon Bay, where the National Park Service operates another fine campground.
Just over the next ridge is Trunk Bay, which you may have seen already on main page of our Travel section. Trunk Bay has been acclaimed by many travel magazines as one of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world -- and rightfully so!
Just a little futher down the road is Hawksnest Bay, another island favorite.
And lastly is the most developed of the five north coast beaches, Caneel Bay. Caneel Bay is actually an exclusive resort hotel established by Laurence Rockefeller in the 1950s. It remains, to this day, the ultimate in secluded luxury.
Our tour of St. John is almost over, since just over the next hill we'll have a spectacular birdseye view of our starting point -- Cruz Bay. Our ferry is probably at the dock waiting to take us back to St. Thomas. So, I hope you enjoyed the virtual tour and will decide to pay St. John (and the other U.S. Virgin Islands) a real visit someday.
