A Drive Around St. Thomas
Stop 3 - Havensight and Paradise Point
Beside the Havensight Shopping Mall at the West Indian Company docks (the red-roofed buildings just below the cruise ships), there's a lot to do in this area of town. For one, you can take a drive up to Paradise Point, a restaurant/gift shop complex on Flag Hill that gives the panoramic view of the Charlotte Amalie harbor and the Havensight docks seen above. This is also a wonderful place to see the sunset and the city come alive at night with thousands of jewel-like lights. If you're adventurous, you can even ride a cable car up to Paradise Point instead of driving (notice the cables in the upper left corner of the picture).
At one of the shops in the Havensight Mall, you can purchase a ticket to take a ride in the Atlantis submarine. This 30+ passenger submarine takes you on a 1-hour cruise under the Caribbean Sea, to a depth of about 50 feet, to see the marvels of the undersea life. It's certainly worth a try.
If you'd like to take a side trip to the sister island of St. Croix, you can hop on a DeHavilland Twin Otter seaplane for a 30-minute flight that will take right to downtown Christiansted. You can also get to St. Croix via commuter airlines from the Cyril E. King Airport (which we'll visit later) or hyrdofoil boats (the type that skims a few feet over the waves).
