A Drive Around St. Croix

Stop 2 - North Shore Sights

St. Croix's north coast has a rugged natural beauty, with breakers crashing along the shore. At Salt River Bay, a protected bay to the west of Christiansted, Christopher Columbus landed in 1493 during his second voyage to the "New World." He named the island Santa Cruz (Holy Cross) which, at some later point in history, was changed to the French St. Croix.

A little further towards the west is one of St. Croix's premiere hotels, the Carambola Beach Resort at Cane Bay. In addition to a nice sandy beach, the resort has a world-class golf course further inland.

Still further towards the west is Davis Bay, another of St. Croix's sandy North shore beaches. Beyond that are the rugged cliffs of Hams Bluff and St. Croix's tropical rain forest.
